For me, though, more intriguing than the dead are the living who pose with them -- usually stoic and reserved, it's the little bit of emotion their faces betray that make these portraits so compelling ... and heartbreaking. Especially if you know the backstories to them. Proving that it's the man that makes the costume, if you took this exact same outfit and put it on a little girl it'd probably be adorable.
