If you have an academic email address, pick yours up for free today! It's only 20$ a month for a subscription license. Octane standalone is really, really nice for certain types of gigs, like if you had many different renders of products in multiple colors/materials… things like that. Windows or Linux recommended. If students email us from their university email account, and we can verify it as an eligible institution (university) then we will add the domain to the allowed list. I talked to the Octane team, there are trying to add support for all non-american students.

I believe that most students would love to get an apartment like this during his college years. So to save time may be I am going for the 20$ solution, even if it uses only 2 GPUs. Only .edu emails are allowed.

That may be more than you are wanting to pay but you definitely don't need to buy the full plugin right now.

It is a completely node-based system, which can be lightning fast or a major pain-in-the-ass, depending on what your are trying to do.

Otoy has just made the previous milestone version of its GPU-based renderer, originally released last June, available to students for free.

Octane Render standalone 1.20 (not 1.5, the most current) is free for students and so are its plugins for Blender, Maya, 3dsMax. Octane Student Version I have seen that Octane have really good features, I need to learn it. Wow, almost the exact same email I got.

That is not the case of the “Apartment for students” shared by matelek at the BlenderArtists forums. Octane now offers student licenses for their older version 1.20.
